David Pitts trains world class roping, reining and working cow horses. The Double P Farm in Cantonment,
Florida, owned by David and his wife, Mirka, is a facility designed for complete training of young reining, roping and
cow horse prospects all the way to their early show careers as amateur and professional mounts. David's philosophy, that a
solid foundation results in sound minds, bodies, great performances and longevity, means that the youngest prospects
are handled using natural horsemanship methods. Usually Mirka, a Parelli Natural Horsemanship Level 4 Student, starts the
young horses. As 2-3 year olds, they begin their development as performance horses.
As both trainer and coach, David has trained several of these horses and their riders to World Championships. ( see Highlights below). David's success stems from more than 35 years of daily commitment to learning, working,
training, performing, and showing. The spectrum of his background is broad; his experience is priceless. He got his first
horse when he was 7 years old and has been riding and working with horses ever since. As a 12 year old, his gift with horses earned
him jobs excercising western pleasure horses and starting 2 year olds under saddle. At 13, David started his roping career,
winning his first roping competitions when he was 14 years old.
As a young man he
was the assistant trainer in three western disciplines, working wih cutting trainer, Russ Deason, roping
trainer, Cliff Chancellor, and western pleasure trainer, H. L. Graham, all in the Pensacola
area. During this period David also enjoyed a 2-year stint as a Professional Rodeo rider, calf and team roping.
David spent a year in Ocala apprenticing under farrier, Pratt Perry, and 2
more years as an assistant trainer on an Ocala thoroughbred farm. Moving on to Mississippi, David confirmed
his knowledge as a cattleman operating and owning a feeder cattle business. After apprenticing under reining trainer Jesse
Chase, David started training reining horses and working cowhorses in 1995.
In the last 7 years David has trained a Reining World Champion Paint horse, Right On Robin and multiple Top
Five and Top Ten Paint and Palomino horses for his clients; he coached the 2007 rider of the Reserve World Champion
Buckskin Cow Horse, Amateur World Champion Buckskin Cow Horse and Reserve World Amateur Buckskin Reining Horse,
PR Smokin Tom Cat. David's current clients are focused on reining and working cow horse classes at
APHA, AQHA, NRHA, NRCHA, in the Southeast United States, and annually attend the Palomino, Paint and Buckskin World Championship
Shows as well as the Dixie National and the Regional AQHA Show. David is a knowledgeable trainer and enjoys coaching
novice and advanced students who aspire to improve their horsemanship and scores.
